The sun was beating down its heat waves all around the lake, but thanks to the water the temperature was not as hot as expected. A cool breeze swift by, bringing along it the smell of flowers from a nearby field. The leaves were whistling with joy as it gets carried up and down with the flow of the wind. A twelve feet high tree extending its arms out, allowed the shadows to gather.
Underneath the tall tree was a guy with glasses, in jeans and a red t-shirt. His eyes were closed, enjoying the outside nature. This place was his peace. It was his heaven. No where else will he go to relax but here. The green hair guy was lying under the tree on top of the tree's big roots, using it as a pillow.

"Ah, finally. That was so refreshing!" Ellie sighed, drying her face with the bottom of her skirt. Rune whinnied contentedly, nudging Ellie's back affectionately. The Bright rubbed Rune's snout, combing through her hair gently.
"You know.. I think we should take a walk."
~*~
After an hour of strolling through the trails of the lakeside, the pair stopped for a bit of rest. Ellie huffed in exasperation, they hadn't seen a single regular, bright, or shade on the way.
"I'll be right back Rune, stay here and eat something." she said absentmindedly, waving her hand. Rune snorted, leaning down to nip at some grass.
The lake creatures sure were active today. Frogs croaking, birds chirping, squirrels scurrying, and the flowers singing with the breeze. It was a beautiful picture, really. Ellie loved visiting the Cerulean Lake, it was the epitome of serenity.
Feeling mischievous, Ellie ran along the shores, feet splashing in the waves. She didn't care who saw her, this was the most fun she had had in quite awhile!
Elsewhere, Rune's ears perked up, hearing her friend's jubilant laughter. The girl was always running off, it was tedious keeping track of her. At least there was never a dull moment. Rolling her eyes, Rune galloped out to the sand, hoping she could intercept Ellie before she got in some sort of trouble.

Hearing noises that was out of the ordinary, the guy opened his eyes slowly, blinking and adjusting to the amount of sunlight that shined. He sat up, rubbing his eyes and let out a yawn. Staring across the lake, Kilen saw a girl running around as if she was having fun. He rolled his eyes and leaned against the tree, watching her. ...Some way to wake up from a nap... he thought, a bit annoyed. Shaking his head, he scanned the area, wondering where the gallop noise he heard was from. Being a bit tense, the Shade watched the red-head girl.

Eventually, Ellie slowly came to a stop. Clasping her hands together, she hummed, pretending to dance to a waltz beat. Flowers popped up from the ground, trailing behind wherever she went.
"Hmm hmm da da daah dum hmm hm..."
The Bright was oblivious to the sound of fast approaching hooves, and instead found herself looking to the trees. That was strange... a bushel of, well, some sort of vegetation was growing on the trunk of a tree...
Wait a minute.
Ellie shaded her eyes, peering closer. It was a man! Finally! Someone to talk to! With a flick of the wrist the sand around her shot up, catapulting her over to the stranger. She landed gracefully before him, seating herself on a nearby root.
"Hello." she breathed, extending her hand warmly.

Kilen watched the girl waltz around while flowers became her footprints. He watched her carefully and smirked. She must be a Bright... never heard of a Shade with the ability to grow flowers... heh.
Suddenly, he saw the girl look over at him and felt a warm feeling emerging from within himself. It was the same feeling he would always get when he was around Naji. Shaking his head, he saw her come closer and made herself comfortable on the root that was above the ground. Staring at her with curiosity, Kilen looked at the hand extended to him.
Letting out a quiet sigh, he smiled. Kilen got up and walked over to her. He took her hand and got onto one knee, kissing it like a gentleman would, or rather the gentlemen in the past would have. "Evening, madam," he whispered softly but loud enough so she could hear him, while still holding onto her hand.
[Note: Naji is Naki Aoi. It's his nickname for her~]

Ellie felt her stomach flutter for a moment.
"Evening, kind sir," she smiled playfully, retracting her hand. "Aren't you the charmer."
The Bright slipped off the root in favor of a place next to the stranger. She gave him the once-over, identifying the aura around him as that of a Shade's. Funny, there weren't many Shades willing to come to such a cheery spot such as Cerulean Lake.
"I'm Ellie. A pleasure to meet you, I'm sure."
~*~
Rune sped up as she rounded a corner, spying Ellie next to a complete stranger! Snorting angrily, she rushed towards the foreign man.
"Rune!" the aforementioned Bright exclaimed, crawling in front of the Shade. "Stop, stop, please! He's okay!"
Skidding to a stop, the horse pawed the ground, whinnying. She trotted closer, nosing Ellie as if apologizing.
"I'm sorry, this is my friend, Rune. Rune meet.." she trailed off, looking at the man questioningly.

Kilen chuckled to see her pulling her hand out of his. He saw her stood up and he too, stood up, wondering where the Bright might be going next. Since his PQ time was already ruined, he thought he might as well accompany the girl.
Unexpectedly a horse came dashing toward him as if in anger. A bit shocked, Kilen smirked at the horse, seeing at how protective it was of its master. What a stupid horse... he thought. Then he looked at the Bright when he heard her introducing him to the horse named Rune. "Please call me Seji. And what might I call you?" he asked her, smiling as he walked up closer to her. This is going to be fun... messing with this horse's mind... he thought, chuckling. Dark amber eyes staring at the Bright, playfully.
[[Note: PQ is what he calls his peace and quiet time ;D]]

"Ellie.." she said, staring at Seji strangely. Didn't she just tell him that? Maybe he has short-term memory loss...
Rune, now officially ticked off, pushed the Seji down to the ground, rearing above him menacingly. The horse couldn't help but feel he was bad business. She hoped her master would realize it as well.
Yeah. Like that would ever happen.
"Rune! Please! Calm down this instant! Behave yourself!!" Ellie yelled. She couldn't figure out why Rune was acting so violently. Even if this man was a Shade, he seemed to be pretty passive right now. Besides, she could defend herself if necessary, she wasn't a little girl anymore.
"I'm sorry, Seji. I promise it won't happen again." she said, giving a pointed look over at Rune. The Bright helped him up by the arm and scanned his face for any injuries.

"Nice to meet you, Ellie..." he spoke, remembering that she already announced her name to him. Wow... I'm being an idiot... he thought. Without a warning, he was pushed down to the ground by the horse. He looked up and glared at the horse through his glasses, not liking it one bit. I knew horses were the worst... but never thought they were this much of a pain...
"I'm sorry, Seji. I promise it won't happen again." Ellie said as she helped him up by the arm and scanned his face for any injuries.
Kilen smiled and took the offer of help from Ellie. Once he got up, he dust off his back making sure there was no more grass or dirt on him. Then he wrapped his arms around the girl's back and kissed her on the lips for a split second and pulled away, looking down into her eyes. "I'll take that as a sorry for your horse pushing me," he whispered as he released her from his grasp and walked closer to the edge of the lake.

Rune was seething in silent fury, but stood her ground per Ellie's orders. That action was completely unacceptable! She hoped Ellie would storm off. Oh she hoped.
~*~
Ellie froze, feeling her heart stop. Her face flushed. That was her first kiss! Sure, plenty of other men had come onto her during her travels but... Rune would constantly interfere. She had no idea how to react to this. It... it was improper! Kissing a person you barely knew! How.. this wasn't how it was supposed to happen..
"How dare you." Ellie whispered, "How dare you..."
She fell to her knees, gripping the earth beneath her. The Bright bit her lip, trying to smooth herself out. It wasn't like her to lose control, especially over something so... so insignificant. She could level with him, there had to be reason, it would be okay, she was a natural born diplomat.
Straightening herself, she shuffled towards Seji, falling in step with him.
"And I suppose you do that to all the girls?" Ellie said as calmly as she could. Rune hurried after her, sensing distress.

Kilen ignored her little stumble of words after the kiss, even though he heard her well and clear. He continued to stare out at the lake. It was beautifully clear and reflecting the sun's rays with warmth. A smile danced across his face as he was mesmerized by Cerulean Lake's beauty.
Then he heard her ask "And I suppose you do that to all the girls?" as she walked up from behind him along with the annoying horse following her. He turned around and looked at her with a genuine smile.
"Not all the girls. That's actually my first one, you should feel special 'cause I'm honored to share my first with a beauty as yourself," he spoke calmly and walked up closer to her once more. "You can't lie to me and said you didn't enjoy that one bit now can ya?" his voice was softening to nothing more than a silent whisper as he walked up even closer to her until they were only about half a foot away from each other. His dark golden amber eyes sparkled with the sun behind him, shining radiantly.

"Your first one too...?" Ellie said, staring at the ground to hide her face. She felt him scoot closer towards her and whisper, "You can't lie to me and say you didn't enjoy that one bit now can ya?" Ellie looked up at him, eyes hard. "Are you... drop the act. I don't get seduced that easily. What if you're lying? I can't believe... that. If you persist I will take action. I'm not easily overpowered either."
Ellie turned around, walking towards Rune and jumping up onto her back. She settled herself so she was still facing Seji.
"Now then," she said lazily, "Why is a Shade like.. you.. in a place like this?"

Kilen backed off of her and rolled his eyes. "I have no reason to answer to you." He was getting annoyed now. The more Ellie was around him, the more he couldn't get the idea of how all Brights act high and mighty, mostly around a Shade.
Walking closer to the water, he took a handful and splashed it on his face, washing it. "Sorry, I couldn't entertain you a bit more," he spoke as he stood up, taking off his glasses and drying his face. He dried his glasses too and put them back on, looking at her on the horse. Smiling, he dipped his head toward her. "Well have a good day, princess of Earth."
Kilen began walking away from Ellie and back the way he came from, back to the city where more Brights reside to make fun of him.

"Entertain? I simply wanted good company! It was hard to believe a Shade as handsome as yourself was here at Cerulean Lake! I was curious." Ellie explained, steering Rune towards Seji.
"I really would like to get to know you better. It's not like I got some bad vibe and suddenly decided to turn hostile. I've dealt with too many Shades that just wanted me for my looks."
"And I'm no princess." Ellie said. "Truthfully, I'm more of an outcast to my own people than anything else..."
She turned away, gazing out into the tranquil water of the lake before muttering, "To be honest... I was... lonely..."

Stopping immediately as he heard the words, "I was lonely...", making him wanted to laugh out loud. He didn't even turn around. "Lonely you say? A Bright lonely? After how they shun the Shades and treat us as if we are nothing? When they come down from somewhere else and take over our Earth that we have lived for so long? Lonely... heh... you don't even know the beginning of the word lonely. You have a horse that is always by your side. That's no lonely feeling." He turned around to look at Ellie. "Don't joke around with me about that."
He felt like he was talking to himself and he thought that Ellie would never understand how he felt. Living ia lie his whole life, acting as someone else, going to school where he was above the Brights, and living in a house filled with Regulars, nothing felt more lonely than that. Sighing, Kilen turned around and began walking. "Just drop it, princess."
The Shade knew this was one of his touchy subjects: lonely. He rolled his eyes as he followed the trail.

Ellie was surprised by the outburst, but didn't let it show.
"Alright then." She said, turning towards him but avoiding eye contact. The trail around the trio turned tan, as if all the water below was now gone, trees around them shriveled and all the flowers they passed wilted. Ellie squeezed her eyes shut, burying her face in Rune's neck for comfort.
Perhaps he was right. She sure wasn't his definition of lonely, she was a kind of lonely all her own. He didn't know what it was like to not be able to talk to anyone for years, no contact, not even from regulars, traveling down a path you didn't understand, being abandoned the time you need another's touch most...
Ellie wanted to say so much... that not all Brights treat Shades like trash, and that maybe they didn't know the Shades even took residence here, that they didn't mean to intrude, and that, most of all, he didn't have to be alone.
But he wouldn't listen. She wished the world was a better place... for everyone.

Kilen ignored the fact that the nature around them were slowlylosing their life engery. He continued walking, even though Ellie and her horse were close by following. As he continued his own way, he felt a surge of pain run through him.
Stopping immediately, he collasped to the ground and let out a groaning sound. "Ugh..." he mumbled, wondering where the it came from. Looking around, he just saw Ellie and Rune. Where is the pain coming from...? he thought to himself as he gradually got up.

Thud.
Ellie opened her eyes to the sight of Seji writhing on the ground groaning. The Bright's eyebrows arched in confusion when his head shot up; it was as if he were looking for something.. or someone. Then, as if nothing had happened, Seji pulled himself up.
Tentatively, she asked, "Are you alright?"
She wasn't sure if he was fooling around just to provoke her or what have you. The last thing Ellie wanted to do was smother him, that would just prompt another harsh outburst directed towards her intelligence.
Why were guys so difficult?
Rune, on the other hand, was much less concerned. Whinnying, she rolled her head in a manner of impatience, nodding her head towards the path.

Kilen looked at Ellie and smiled sweetly. "I'm okay, no worries. Hey can I uh..." he looked at the horse than back up at Ellie, "join you on your horse...? I kind of need to get somewhere quickly..." The Shade looked up at Ellie with pleading eyes, somewhat mysterious and hiding something deeply, but one thing for sure was his golden dark amber eyes were concerned about something or maybe someone.
"If you don't want to... or your horse won't let me then it's fine. I'll just go by foot... but I still think horse might be faster."
...Naji... please say you are ok...

Ellie rolled the request over in her head. Seji hadn't exactly been the most pleasant company she'd had, but this predicament could prove to have its uses..
"Rune, are you okay with this?" the Bright asked, "Because if you aren't, I might not have anymore apples on me..."
The horse turned her head to glare at her master. This was the worst idea she'd had in awhile, and aggravating to boot. Reluctantly, Rune nudged Seji towards her flank.
Ellie smiled, "You can get on if you promise, honestly promise, that you'll be good to me." She offered her hand, "Or at least tolerate me." the Bright added as an afterthought, giggling.
It was his choice.

The Shade rolled his eyes as the girl asked the horse. The more I am around this girl... the more she reminds me of Naji... always considering others' feeling even plants. As he was distracted by his throughts, Ellie smiled.
"You can get on if you promise, honestly promise, that you'll be good to me." She offered her hand, "Or at least tolerate me." the Bright added, giggling.
He looked up at the girl and sighed. "I guess I have no choice but to agree to it... for now." Holding her hand, he hopped onto the horse too. But without asking her permission, Kilen grabbed Rune's rein, trying to direct him to where his sudden shock seemed to be coming from.

"H-hey! No backseat driving!!" Ellie said, surprised as Seji stole Rune's reins right out of her hands. The Bright clawed at the Shade, attempting to repossess the reins. Seji held them up above her reach, which in turn made Rune rear, almost knocking off her passengers.
"Rune!!" Ellie shrieked, sliding back against Seji. The Shade, however, managed to balance himself- even with the added strain- as the horse calmed down, resuming position, flitting forward nervously. In front of him Ellie sat up, and turned to glare at Seji.
"Have you ever ridden a horse before?" she said, scrutinizing him. "No matter, I'll help. Rune can go by verbal commands or by slight changes in the directions of her reins. Tap her side- lightly, mind you- to go faster, or just tell her. Simple right?"
"Now then, where to?"

Kilen saw Ellie trying to grab the eins and he made a quick move, holding it high above her head. Suddenly, the horse reared back, making Ellie slide back and hit against him roughly. He made an uninviting face but managed to stay on the horse with Ellie still in front of him.
"Wooh, what a wild horse..." he commeneted quietly to himself as he tried to calm the horse down by pulling gently on its rein. Finally when Rune calmed down, he looked at Ellie and started laughing, seeing she was not one bit happy.
"Ok, ok, ok. I'm sorry, princess. Please forgive me." The Shade looked forward and rested his head upon her shoulder, whether she allowed him to or not. "I know how to ride a horse... just this horse hates me..." Lifting up his head, he gave the Bright a peck on the cheeks and began his attempt to make the horse go foward, gently tapping its side with his legs.
"We're going to a store house nearby here." he whispered for Ellie to hear.

"Stop calling me princess," Ellie said, making an annoyed noise, "or I'll have to make up a nickname for you too!" The Bright huffed when he pecked her on the cheek. What was his problem anyway? Even if he was her first kiss, he couldn't seriously be interested in her.
"We're going to a store house nearby here." Seji whispered. The Bright nodded, hiding her face. Rune began to move quickly, and soon the they were galloping into the jungle of abandoned buildings called the city. It seemed they still had a ways to go.
Ellie spent time trying to come up with a nickname. After pondering for a good five minutes she still had nothing.. maybe it would come to her later.
The Bright hoped this wasn't some sort of elaborate trap they.. or she.. were running into. Not that she didn't trust Seji, quite the opposite, though she'd barely met him. Today was just full of surprises.

Kilen chuckled to see Ellie annoyed. This seemed to be more fun than he thought it would be. As the surroundings fade into the background, he saw that it wasn't turning brown like before. The Princess of the Earth was at least happy... for now.
Seeing the store house coming into view, he tugged at Rune's rein, gently. "Stop here... please..." he commanded the horse, hoping the horse would listen.
When Rune stopped, he seemed a bit shocked but smiled and got off of the horse. "Thank you." Kilen said, petting Rune's right side flank.
"You should leave... princess. I don't like this place but there is some business I need to check out." The Shade stared definately at Ellie. Even though, he didn't realize it, but he was softening up around Ellie and explaining himself to her although he had no reason too.
